What type of box should you buy*? Quality vs cost.
Many, many people buy a box hoping to speak with one particular deceased person & only that person. They then feel disappointed (sometimes angry) when they don't get contact from that spirit.
If you are hoping to speak to your mom or a friend who has passed - I suggest buying an inexpensive box. You might say that a more expensive box will give you better quality audio and increase the chances of success. This may be true. BUT the chances of you speaking to the spirit you seek on your first (or even second or third) session, are slim.
New GB users often think you call for a spirit, ask a question and POP! It doesn't happen that way (well, very rarely).
When you turn on the ghost box the signal blasts out into the atmosphere and can be heard by many, many spirits (on several different planes). Often, they will not speak immediately - waiting to find out who you are and what you seek. After you say who you are and what you want - you may or may not get answers. What you might hear are many different voices saying 'Who's that?'. They aren't talking to you, they are talking about you.
Spirits may begin calling out their names - not because they know you or you know them - its just what spirits do. (Note: If you hear a name - take a second and say "hello" and repeat the name. This is polite GB etiquette.)
The person you wish to contact may not know how to speak yet. Spirits do not have vocal cords - they learn how to create words from thought and universe sounds. You may hear a male voice call out 'Betty Brown'. Chances are good its not his name, he's calling out the name for Betty Brown because she either cannot speak or her voice is too low.
After 5-10 minutes you may hear a very clear, distinct voice call out its name. He/she may be a Spirit Technician. They have more skill than most spirits and will try to work with you and protect you while you are on the ghost box. They may ask you to turn down the radio sweep or speak louder. Always pause long enough for the spirits to answer after you say something.
If you tell the tech who you wish to speak to - full name + date of birth + date of death, they will tell you if that spirit is available or ask you to wait while they try to locate the spirit for you.
Mind you - as this is happening - you'll have many voices speaking at once plus radio garbage thrown at you. Listening & sorting through the noise takes practice and patience.
During your first ghost box session you will learn two things.
If you are hooked and do sessions consistently - you'll know its time to upgrade to a better, more expensive box.
If you feel nothing but frustration - put it away, for now. You haven't spent a lot of money.
*There are also Ghost Box communicators that will offer to try and contact your departed loved ones for you - many free of charge.
I believe Steve Hultay does this for people. Steve is one of the GB pioneers and has worked at improving ghost boxes for many years. Steve is one of the few who can call Frank Sumpton friend. If you go to youtube and do a search for Steve Hultay you will find a list of videos he's done on various ghost boxes.
