What makes a good Pendulum?
For simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions - any object that you can loop a cord/string through — a locket, key, metal nut, ring, etc. will work.
For more in depth questions - a small object with a pointed end is easier to use as the pendulum may need to point at letters to spell words.
Pendulums may be purchased online or in your local Wicca shop. Many online pendulum sites will give you ideas on what you already have in your home that can be used as your pendulum. The string should be pliant - about 11" long. You will loop it through the dangle object, which is to serve as your pendulum, and tie the ends together making its length finish at about 5".
I use a crystal Prism as my Pendulum
For best results:
Never loan out or share your pendulum.
Thunder-storms affect pendulums adversely.
Remove watches, jewelry & metallic objects from the area you'll be using the pendulum.
The subconscious does not recognize negative words, therefore, avoid them in questions. Ask what is good for you (not what is bad for you).
Getting Started
Rest your elbows on either side of the chart you are going to use (see below about charts). Hold the pendulum's string between thumb and middle finger of the hand you use to write (longer lengths tend to swing wider). Place your other hand flat on the table and your feet on the ground. Allowing the pendulum to hang freely and ask a question that you know the correct answer is 'yes'. Different energies may answer differently. Some spirits will do a vertical swing for a 'yes' answer. Other spirits will make clockwise circles to respond 'yes'.
Once you have asked 2 or 3 'yes' questions and feel comfortable that you and spirit are working together, ask 2-3 'no' questions. Same thing - some spirits will make counter clockwise circles for a negative response and others will do a horizontal line.
Always do this 'yes' and 'no' test for each session to determine how the spirit will respond. Or simply as which motion means ‘Yes’? Which motion means ‘No’? And which motion means ‘Maybe’?
Experimenting with your Pendulum
Hold the pendulum over various objects; a plant, your favorite book, a glass of water. You’ll see that the pendulum moves with different patterns according to the vibrancy of each object. ·
Place several photographs of people you know in a semi-circle on the table. Positioning the pendulum at the center, ask, for example, in which of the pictures your mother is. Wait for the pendulum to pick up momentum and soon it will point to the correct photo.
The Language of the Pendulum
Important signals to understand are ‘yes’, ‘no’ and maybe’. Signals vary from person to person, but these are the most common:
Yes — a circular, clockwise motion
Yes — to and fro in a vertical motion
No — a circular, anti-clockwise motion
No — to and fro in a horizontal motion
Maybe — to and fro in a diagonal motion
OR motion may stop completely.
You need to phrase things a bit differently - Like 'In the next two hours is it going to rain in Columbus, Ohio?'. You cannot just ask if it is going to rain because it is always raining somewhere. And it may rain in your area tomorrow. Be as specific as possible.
When asking if you should do something - You might say 'At this present moment, would taking the job at the Cheese Factory be a good choice for me?' & You may not get an answer. Again - pretty vague. You might love the job but dislike the manager. Or Spirit may know that they do not give regular raises. See? Practice rewording questions. If your spirit guide is as silly as mine you may end up laughing together!
Pendulum Divination Chart
This is the first chart I made. I was anxious to get started so I quickly traced around a CD. I added the laughter like when the pendulum began going in circles after we'd already determined it wouldn't use circles to answer questions. I asked if it was laughing at me and it slowed down and began doing a vertical 'yes' motion. Lol.
I created this second chart deciding I wanted to ask more in depth questions. The spirit(s) seem to prefer the first chart.
Creating Charts for Special Questions
The possibilities of questions to ask are endless. Perhaps you’re unsure of which name to give an expected baby boy; fill the segments with the names like best, i.e. Charlie, Sam, David, Jamie etc. and ask Spirit which name would suit the character of your unborn son the best.
Predicting the Gender of an Unborn Child
“Will it be a boy or a girl?” Spirits can answer this question long before medical practitioners can.
Lie down, hold the pendulum over your abdomen and concentrate on the question. If the pendulum moves in a circular or eclipse motion, you can most likely expect a girl. It will be a boy if the movements are straight.
Finding Misplaced Objects
There are three ways to do this:
Sitting at a table, ask the pendulum in which direction the object is. It will point that way.
Ask questions that require a ‘yes’ or ‘no’: Is it in the sitting room? Is it in my bedroom? Is it in the cellar?
Dowsing: Take the pendulum around the area you believe the object was lost and wait for a signal (a sudden change of movement) at the exact point where the object can be found.
Most of all - don't take life (or the Pendulum too seriously). Have fun with Spirit! Don't forget to thank them.
